Freebie Action Set for Digital Artists/Photographers

I have uploaded a free action set download for everyone! I get sick to my stomach when I see people spending BIG $$ on actions. If you do buy your actions, I suggest that you do not pay anymore than $1-$10 max! I personally cannot believe people are willing pay tp $$$ for actions? Really? Do yourself a favor and sign up for a digital photo course at a local college before shelling out the big bucks on actions. As someone who has a background in digital art/computer art, I know there are a variety of FREE resources out there where you can get some truly amazing free actions.

I have spent a lot of time and even some money researching this! I am seeing people pay a college course tuition cost for ONE SET OF ACTIONS? Geesh...ripped off...it makes me sad. There are many who have taken such courses, come home with an armload of actions and then tweak and retweak their actions, market them as their own, and sell them for UBER bucks! If you sign up for a college level digital photography course or two, you will be given access to a number of action sets that you can then use, you will also be trained on how you can CREATE YOUR OWN!

I know there will be some upset with my rant, but honestly, this is how I feel about it and thus, I have created a bunch of awesome freebies! I don't believe you should have to pay for them...enjoy!!

Updates & Then Some...

Happy New Year Everyone!

I am trying to make a habit out of writing in my blog at least once a month.  My New Year started off with a bang!  I have taken on a some commissions which I will be showing here and on my FB Fan page. The first two showcase horses of course! A thoroughbred jumper named Ren and a lovely older Paso Fino gentleman! That is all I will tell you for now. I will continue to post my progress along with photos soon! I am also working on another fantasy piece, a woodland elf maiden but haven't decided what medium to make her in. I am leaning towards watercolors or colored pencil, or perhaps a mixed media approach with those two mediums.

As for my Facebook New Year's giveaway, I am currently offering a custom 6"x6" colored pencil portrait raffle. All you have to do is click like on the offer and your name will be entered into the drawing. The winner will be announced at the end of January! That's it for now!

I promised everyone a monthly Facebook Giveaway and I haven't upheld my end of the bargain due to computer melt down that left me without my computer or my files. I lost my original Facebook First Giveaway piece when my computer went skitzoid. To make up for that I am giving two Fine Art Photography pieces away in a random drawing.
He Walks Away With My Heart
Yesteday's Summer

How to Enter:

Go to my facebook Fan Page and make sure you are a fan. Then hit "like" underneath the giveaway pieces. I will use the names that are "liking" the image to create a random drawing. The winners will be announced on my Facebook fan page and will also be contacted by private message. The winners must provide me with their mailing address in a "PRIVATE" message so that I can send them their piece!

The images chosen for this month will actually run until Dec 15th. The next single image chosen will start the New Year. Tough Mudder New England

Well I am writing just to inspire myself once again to get the Tough Mudder New England course under my belt. I had a dream of doing it this year however I found myself expecting a little bundle of joy who was due around the time this course even took place! I had trained really hard for the Tough Mudders I wanted to participate in and found myself in the best shape of my life, even better than when I was a Division 1 college athlete!

Tough Mudder New England takes place in Mount Snow Vermont and the course is designed by British Special Forces. I believe it is one of the most difficult Mudder courses on the circuit, hence the reason why I am wanting to do this event. I am more invested in training for the Mudders of 2012 than ever before as I have the dreaded baby fat to lose!
Check out the New England Tough Mudder video from this year...

New Year's Resolutions 1.1.2011

I have an enormously promising year ahead of me. We all know that Rome was not built in a day, but gradually and deliberately over time. Patience is a virtue and I have been slowly and steadily growing my own art business over the last 8 years. I have done so nearly entirely on my own, though I am ever so grateful for the support I have had from near and dear friends and of course family. My husband and my father have been the largest supporters of my artistically creative endeavors. Their faith in me has given me the inspiration and the courage to keep on chasing my dreams.

I am so very proud of myself. In 2002 I was scared to take the plunge into reality and try to make it as a freelance artist. I didn’t want to be a starving artist, I didn’t want to live with my parents, and I didn’t want to struggle financially and be dependent on trying to adapt to living paycheck to paycheck. I took the safe route and went on to graduate school where I focused on my painting and was able to obtain a MFA and a MAT. Teaching is a great backup tool for the aspiring artist just as long as one enjoys working with students and being in front of an audience.

Prior to graduate school I already had teaching experience in the private sector and occassionally working within a few CT schools as a substitute or teacher's aid. I had been asked by principals to share my art experience with students in a few CT schools before I left for graduate school and I really enjoyed those experiences and used them to drive onward with my own goals.

Depending on where you teach, you may be able to find much success balancing both and be respected within the community as an “artist teacher”. I have found that schools throughout much of New England (I’m trying not to be biased) and parts of Maryland really value the arts and artists as teachers. School systems further down toward the south have been a disappointment to me in regards to their art programs, especially school systems that are within certain “right to work” states.

I won’t spin off on one of my tangents about public education, but if you would like to contact me in regards to my teaching experiences in relation to being an artist teacher, please do not hesitate to email me. As much as I love working with children creating and selling my artwork is my main passion. It is still my goal to teach, but instead I will be teaching private art lessons for all ages and abilities from my quiet studio nook in the Furnace Mountain range.

I have started the task of updating my website and still have so much to do within the gallery sections. I am also working on a lot of promotional items and marketing myself. I have gathered much information about my “ideal client” and have been marketing myself toward them. With taxes ever climbing those who do the most purchasing of original fine art are watching their discretionary incomes dwindle and aren’t spending as much as they normally would on art. I have decided to offer promotions and discounts to further entice potential clients and have found it to be working to my advantage.

I have found the vast majority of my business does in fact come from word of mouth and then from my online presence; both from my professional website and then from other websites that I am an active participant on. I have been networking with many artists and have met some truly talented people that I have shared many delightful conversations with. I have seen the varying perspectives on the world of art from artists working overseas as well as from artists working right here in the states. I have heard some very interesting thoughts and concerns being voiced.

With baby on the way, I find myself rushing to put pen to paper with some ideas I have for attainable New Year’s resolutions. I know my main focus will be just to grow my business and client list, but I also have some other resolutions that I am working on to help me with my creative journey…

• Offer more prints directly from my studio and website
• Create and sell A LOT more fine art
• Keep my blogs, news, and exhibition list current
• Enter more exhibitions
• Enter artwork and photographs in this year’s Waterford Fair
• Finish a children’s book
• Advertise myself more
• Create a piece of art everyday (this should really be top priority)

Motivation is a great tool, so if you happen to read this little blog, please DO pester me about these resolutions as often as you would like! Yes, the bulleted items are what I feel most strongly about accomplishing this year.

May your New Year’s be all that you could ever hope for and more! Go out there and chase your passion, live your dream, and may you succeed!

Waterford Faire 2010

Kevin and I went to the Waterford Faire this weekend and had a lot of fun. Its not far from our house which is very nice, and we did debate riding our bikes. Our neck of the woods here in NOVA still hasn't been corrupted by the development of greedy housing developers lining the pockets of our even more greedy politicians. We are very fortunate and don't regret not having garbage pickup, or cable, or city water, or the likes out here. We are quietly nestled away from the craziness of NOVA life. THANK GOD!

There was so much art and photography there that I found a lot of inspiration. Some of the art was good some if it was mediocre, you know, the bored housewife trying her hand at painting, or the retired older folks wanting to explore their creativity. But there were few pieces there created by skilled well trained hands that obviously spent an entire lifetime studying and painting or photographing, the type of work that demonstrated they went to art school or spent years as an apprentice or second shooter.

There were many local organic farmers represented, musicians, weavers, furniture makers, jewelers, authors, potters, and period demonstrations. This particular area of Virginia I live in continually reminds me of Old Sturbridge Village in massachusetts, only it is a real working live town still and not just for tourists.

I did enjoy it and found a lot of inspiration and have found myself itching to get back to creating some more equine and animal pieces. Well I did take a few shots from the faire scene. Nothing great but some fun off the hip shots. Enjoy!
