Fairytale Wedding: Charles and Brittani November 20, 2010

I absolutely loved having the opportunity to photograph such an extraordinary fairytale wedding. Brittani Benedict wore an amazing smile and used it non-stop throughout the day, not once did I have to remind her to smile in any of her pictures! The day was beautiful and the location, Raspberry Plains in Leesburg, stunning with tons of windows and natural lighting, just what I love! I was able to play around a lot with diffused light and shadow which was wonderful.

I have known Brittani Benedict's mother, Jodi, since I first moved to Virginia and began working at the same elementary school, where Jodi taught Kindergarten. I designed Brittani's sister, Brandi's webpage, Sonrise Stables back in 2007. The Benedict family is a warm, loving, honest, and compassionate family, this is very evident even in the photographs I captured of them. I am so grateful they considered me for their wedding!

I took about 2700 photos and have narrowed my selection down to a large 840! I am posting a few samples from the day here for a sneak peek! I am now processing my chosen images and getting them ready for the proof process via my website! Stay tuned!

I love good clean natural photography, I feel that the digital age has allowed many photographers to rely too heavily on photoshop and computer manipulation and this is evident in the over-processed images you are seeing flood the market today. Many of today's digital photographers need to spend some time learning the basics and get an understanding of how their camera's work as well as the lenses. I consider myself lucky to have minored in photography and studied it in a time when film camera was the only option. I was taught how to see!

Please enjoy some samples from Brittani's and Charle's special day...

Waterford Faire 2010

Kevin and I went to the Waterford Faire this weekend and had a lot of fun. Its not far from our house which is very nice, and we did debate riding our bikes. Our neck of the woods here in NOVA still hasn't been corrupted by the development of greedy housing developers lining the pockets of our even more greedy politicians. We are very fortunate and don't regret not having garbage pickup, or cable, or city water, or the likes out here. We are quietly nestled away from the craziness of NOVA life. THANK GOD!

There was so much art and photography there that I found a lot of inspiration. Some of the art was good some if it was mediocre, you know, the bored housewife trying her hand at painting, or the retired older folks wanting to explore their creativity. But there were few pieces there created by skilled well trained hands that obviously spent an entire lifetime studying and painting or photographing, the type of work that demonstrated they went to art school or spent years as an apprentice or second shooter.

There were many local organic farmers represented, musicians, weavers, furniture makers, jewelers, authors, potters, and period demonstrations. This particular area of Virginia I live in continually reminds me of Old Sturbridge Village in massachusetts, only it is a real working live town still and not just for tourists.

I did enjoy it and found a lot of inspiration and have found myself itching to get back to creating some more equine and animal pieces. Well I did take a few shots from the faire scene. Nothing great but some fun off the hip shots. Enjoy!

Thursday September 30th 2010

A torrential downpour kept me from taking my normal shots today. So instead I waited and waited for the storm clouds to break, which didn't happen until later Friday just around sunset, so once again I took a few shots of the clouded sky. The clouds were slowly breaking up and I took that opportunity to get a few shots of the interesting cloud formations that occured. I can't complain too much as we needed the rain in a desperate sort of way :)
